The Democratic Alliance has
called on National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega to explain the expenditure
of R40 million to be used on a music bash.
This follows a report which
alleged that the money will be spent on a competition for the police’s leading
music groups and choirs.
DA MP of Police Dianne Kohler
Barnard said this is the latest example of frivolous spending of a budget that
should be used for the fight against crime. Barnard says “this is the latest example
of frivolous spending of a budget that should be used to fight crime.
Bernard added that, earlier this
year the National Police commissioner used an access of twenty-million rand to
hire energy consultants who are in fact has communication paid for by the tax
payer.
I therefore submit these
parliamentary questions to seek clarity of the nature of this event or its
purposes and if this expenditure is fruitless, Bernard added.
