Corruption robs homeless Capetonians
Hundreds of needy people in Khayelitsha and other Cape Town townships will have to wait longer for homes because corruption has put the brakes on eight housing projects. The Special Investigations Unit and the Directorate of Special Operations are investigating widespread misappropriation of funds. Housing and Local Government MEC Richard Dyantyi says communities have been robbed. He says the crackdown is an attempt to ensure clean government. Dyantyi told the Cape Times the housing projects have been put on hold and subsidies amounting to millions of rands have been halted until the investigations have been completed.
