Cosatu will be holding May Day celebrations with a mass rally in the Gardens in Cape Town starting at 10:00 until 17:30 in the afternoon, on Thursday the 1st May 2008.
“The event will be attended by all Cosatu members, aswel as members in the communities and the crisis on the food prices and the electricity blackouts,” says Cosatu’s Tony Ehrenreich.
Cosatu says the event is an opportunity for workers to celebrate the gains of democracy, but also to recommit ourselves to the continued transformation of our society.
The event is also open for workers who are non Cosatu members to attend as well as communities who support the campaign for affordable food.
“We have arranged free trains to transport our members and communities who want to attend the event from all over to Cape Town Gardens. People are welcome to attend,” says Ehrenreich.
The trains will be free from between 8:00 and 17:00.
The musical events include Cafda Dance Group, Jayd Music Band, Little Giants, Afro Fiesta and Malaika.
