The City of Cape Town’s Traffic Services are concerned about drunk driving as eleven out of fourteen drivers stopped by City Traffic officers at a roadblock in Woodstock at the weekend were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
Merle Lourens, media spokesperson for the Cape Town Traffic Services says the number of people driving while drunk is very concerning and an increasing problem.
“It seems that the only way to counter the danger they pose to other motorists and pedestrians is to hold random roadblocks throughout the City.”
Lourens says the city conducted roadblocks and speed checking on Black River Parkway. Routine patrols in the CBD and results were appalling motorists are irresponsible and unlawful.
