The City of Cape Town Liquor By-law Task Team has started evaluating comments it received from the public on the Draft Liquor Trading Days and Hours By-law.

The by-law was available for public comment in January and allowed 30 days for public participation until the 27th of February. Also a public hearing was held on the 17th of February.

Next week, all submissions will be categorised and listed and then tabled at a task team meeting on Friday.

Councillor Taki Amira said they are going to start re-evaluating this week categorising their input. Several steps have already been implemented.

  • The task team’s legal advisors have been asked to formulate descriptions of establishments to provide definitions for the by-law.

  • The task team’s planning advisors have been asked to provide more precise definitions of the zoned areas in the by-law to complement the current zoning definitions and the Integrated Zoning Scheme.

  • A member of the Directorate of Economic Development and Tourism has been seconded to the task team and will assess the industry comments and then brief the task team at its 6 March meeting
