A man and a young girl drowned in the sea off Great Brak River near Mossel Bay this morning despite all efforts by the NSRI and medics to save them.

NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said two girls aged eleven and twelve got into difficulties and a 40-year-old man dived into the waves in an effort to save them.

Bystanders also contacted the NSRI who rushed to the scene.

The children are from George and are believed to have been part of a church camp.

The man who went into the sea after the girls also got into difficulties and “he and the 11-year-old were declared dead on the scene” said Lambinon.

The 12-year-old was rushed to hospital for treatment for secondary drowning
