Five suspects have been arrested after an armed robbery occurred in Hout Bay this morning.
The suspects, one armed with a firearm, entered Spar in Oakhurst, in Main road and demanded cash.
After locking-up the security guard in a toilet and removing his cell phone and two-way radio, they took the owner into his office and demanded cash.
The suspects also emptied cash registers and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police spokesperson Inspector Tanya Lesch says the other suspects fled the scene on foot.
“About three suspects fled the scene on foot and others fled in a white Mazda bakkie. Shortly thereafter members of an armed response unit apprehended two of the suspects with three bags filled with cash in Main road and police then took custody of the suspects,” said Lesch.
Lesch says another security agency recovered the white Mazda bakkie in Mandela Park, an informal settlement not far from the crime scene.
No shots were fired and no one was injured during this incident.
The suspects face charges of armed robbery and are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court, soon.
