Five people were injured during a shooting incident in Eland Street, Kewton in Athlone last night.
It is believed that the victims were standing in the entrance of a building in Kewton, when they were approached by a group of unknown people.
According to a media release: “They fired several shots at them, injuring five people between the age of 15 and 19 from Athlone.
“The suspects fled the scene on foot and the victims were later taken to hospital for medical assistance. They sustain injuries on their legs, chest, buttocks and testicles".
Four of the injured are currently in hospital while only one has been released.
It is believed the incident is gang related. Four people were taken in for questioning, but later released.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
