Western Cape Housing Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela will today launch the Rental Housing Tribunal “Know Your Rights Campaign”.
Minister Madikizela says the campaign is to inform tenants and landlords of their rights and responsibilities as well as the services offered by the Rental Housing Tribunal.
“The campaign bears out of the realisation that too few people are aware of the Rental Housing Tribunal and its role in fostering sound relations between landlords and tenants,” says the Minister.
The department believes it is more crucial since the onset of economic recession will increase the likelihood of tenants defaulting on rent and landlords acting immorally.
The Minister says it is very important that landlords and tenants alike understand that there is a Tribunal administered by the Department of Local Government and Housing whose purpose is to settle rental disputes free of charge.
“At the launch members of the Rental Housing Tribunal will stage a 15 minutes mock hearing to demonstrate how the tribunal operates,” added Minister Madikizela.
