A workshop to share information on Cape Town’s Integrated Rapid Transit system was derailed today.
It was attended by several taxi associations.
Mayor Dan Plato says the city could not agree to a request by the Western Cape National Taxi Alliance for a joint province-wide conference on the matter.
The request was a requirement to the workshop discussing the IRT further. Plato says the city continues to talk successfully with other taxi associations.
Meanwhile, Cape Town Traffic Services says one-thousand-860 offences were recorded during simultaneous roadblocks in various parts of the city over the weekend.
Sixty-eight people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 775 for speeding-related offences.
The highest speed recorded was for a vehicle travelling at 186-kilometres per hour in an 80-kilometres zone along Eastern Boulevard.
