Two suspected armed robbers are under police guard in hospital.
This is after the suspects were caught after reportedly robbing a shopkeeper of an undisclosed amount of cash in Khayelitsha.
The victim was robbed of off yesterday morning and immediately ran to the Khayelitsha police station to report the incident.
Police then traced the suspects and a shoo-out ensued wounding both suspects in their legs.
Police spokesperson Captain Anneke van der Vyver says the two, aged 25 and 29 years-old respectively, were found with unlicensed fire-arms.
“Two unlicensed fire-arms, one a 9mm and the other a 0.30 special were recovered from the suspects who reside in Nyanga and Gugulethu respectively,” van der Vyver said.
Van der Vyver says the cash taken by the suspects have not been recovered yet and it is believed it was dropped off at a pre-arranged point.
“It is also believed that the suspects were involved in another business robbery that took place earlier this week,” van der Vyver added.
The suspects will appear in court on charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed fire-arm and pointing of fire-arm in due course.
