Copperheads arrest two cable thieves in Lotus River

Two people have been arrested in Lotus River for being in possession of newly installed copper cables.

City’s Specialised Law Enforcement Services Neil Arendse says the Copperheads, was tipped off by members of the Lotus River community about a possible copper theft happening in their area

“Upon arrival at the named site, the Copperheads spotted two suspicious looking men walking away from the scene. They were stopped and the nylon bag in their possession was searched. Inside the bag was 1.5 m of four core street lighting copper cable.

“The two men, aged 31 and 38 years respectively, were taken to Grassy Park Police Station and detained on charges of theft and possession of stolen property.

Arendse added that the value of the cable retrieved by the Copperheads was R633, but the damage caused by the thieves amounts to approximately R6 000-00.
