Metro police through their “Operation Razor” intensified their efforts to reduce crime and road accidents caused by drunk drivers at various roadblocks in Lwandle, Atlantis, Manenberg and Bishop Lavis over the weekend.
On Friday and Saturday night a total of twenty one motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Lwandle whilst another twelve were arrested in Atlantis on Saturday night.
The operation which started in the Manenberg area with the focus on drug related offences as well as drunk driving resulted in the arrest of eleven motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Deputy-Chief Yolanda Faro says the operation yielded numerous arrests.
Their officers executed several search warrants at suspected drug houses and confiscated large quantities of drugs.
“A house in Caribbean Street, Manenberg was searched and 26,6 grams of TIK , a stolen Taurus revolver and 5 rounds of ammunition were recovered, two suspects were arrested,” Faro said.
Faro said the weekend’s roadblocks and routine patrols also resulted in 118 traffic fines being issued for traffic offences ranging from failing to carry a driving license in the vehicle, to not displaying number plates, illegal parking and various mechanical defects on motor vehicles.
This also resulted in two motorists being arrested in Sea Point for Contravening the National Road Traffic Act.
“We will continue to act against those who are breaking the law, whether it’s for drunk driving or making a nuisance in public. Our members will conduct regular roadblocks, vehicle check points and will do searches on suspected drug dens,” added Faro.
