Officer goes beyond the call of duty

Yet another Metro police officer went beyond the call of duty after assisting in the delivery of a healthy baby girl.

Sergeant Quentin Schweni, who is stationed at the Metro Police’s headquarters in Phillip, was informed by a security officer that the mother of the baby was in labour.

Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro says the sergeant rushed to the charge office and called an ambulance- but it was clear that the baby wouldn’t wait.

“The mother gave birth in the security office, where she was assisted by Sergeant Schweni.

Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly afterward.

Both mother and daughter were taken to the Mitchell’s Plain Day Hospital and are doing well.

“This is not the first time that Metro Police officers at Rochester Road have stepped in to deliver a baby.

“A baby girl was born here in January this year, assisted by another officer. These officers truly take ‘service delivery’ to another level,” said Faro.
