A thirty three year old woman has been arrested by Cluster Priority Crimes Investigation Unit in Nyanga.
Is it alleged that the woman is involved in a syndicate that has committed a series of house robberies and armed robberies in Athlone, Lansdowne, Wynberg, Woodstock and other areas.
Police spokesperson Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi says her arrest led to the arrest of two police reservists in Harare, Khayelitsha.
“An operation was then conducted and four male Malawian Nationals were also arrested in Sweet Home Farms, Mxenge.
Two vehicles that were allegedly used in the committing of these crimes; one belonging to the woman and the other to the four Malawian suspects, was also confiscated. We also confiscated a box full of illegal cigarettes.
“The suspects are posing as police officers saying that they received information that the owner of that house is dealing with illegal staff. They then would the victim of their belongings. The suspects were mainly targeting Somalia Nationals as well as other local people too, said Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.
Sitshitshi added that further investigations led to the arrest of another police reservist in Harare, Khayelitsha. Later that evening we arrested two more Malawian males in Sweet Home Farms, Mxenge in possession of police uniform, three bullet proof vests and appointment certificates.
Some of the suspects are appearing in Wynberg Court today, police are appealing people at large who have been victims of these crimes to come forward to police and victims can contact Detective Captain Taylor or Detective Inspector Phillips on 082 928 1043 or (021) 6999 424.
