The City is urging Capetonians to ‘turn their lights down low’ in support of the annual Earth Hour organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature.
Millions around the globe will turn off their lights for an hour at 20:30pm on Saturday, March,27 to take action against climate change.
Sarah Rushmere, Electricity Efficiency Campaign Manager in the City, says South Africa will be subjected to many years of an electricity supply shortage and rising prices.
“The City will use a range of communication channels to encourage its staff and residents to consider the Earth for that hour and switch off their lights as a symbolic act. A request has been made for all municipal building lights to be turned off at this time, as well as the lights on Table Mountain,” said Rushmere.
