A bus overturned about 14km outside Aliwal North leaving eight people dead and 17 injured.
“The bus was travelling to Welkom in the Free State on Sunday afternoon when the bus lost control and overturned on the R58 between Aliwal North and Lady Grey,” said Arrive Alive spokesperson Tshepo Machaea.
Eight people died on the scene and 17 passengers were rushed to hospital in a serious condition.
A large amount of the passengers were students and miners from Welkom.
A Pretoria transport team has been called in to inspect the bus.
