Jackie Selebi was sentenced for 15 years yesterday in the South Gauteng High Court.

Selebi was found guilty on charges of corruption for accepting money from convicted drug trafficker Glen Agliotti.

His sentenced was widely welcomed by many, especially politicians. AfriForum praised the disbanded Scorpions unit for their role in bringing Selebi to justice.

Other political parties who shared their views include United Democratic Movement’s Bantu Holomisa.

Congress of the People Julie Killian was reported as saying, the sentence sends out a strong message that South African courts will not hesitate to deliver justice in corruption cases.

Selebi said after his 15-year prison sentence for corruption that “I have been expecting this since day one” and added “The case is far from over.”

Jackie Selebi’s brother Suleiman Selebi stated after the sentencing that “Judge Meyer Joffe is an apartheid judge”
