President Jacob Zuma and Minister of Water Affairs Buyelwa Sonjica face criminal charges over the pollution of the Hartbeespoort Dam.

Previous charges have been laid against the Madibeng Municipality over the pollution, as well as the collapsing sewage infrastructure by the Water Affairs Department and the Democratic Alliance.

The Department of Water Affairs has done nothing thus far to solve the problem and have no choice but to take the president to court.

Environment and conservation association chairperson Nicole Barlow said “The president is the custodian of the constitution and he is basically responsible for the minister’s performance. And therefore we are holding him indirectly responsible as well.”

A case has been opened with the police.
