Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu has once again expressed her opposition to mine nationalisation, calling the debate on the issue “misdirected”.
This follows Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba’s pronouncement earlier this week that "reckless" nationalisation debates could negatively affect investor perceptions.
Shabangu says the real issue is addressing poverty. She urged mining companies to do more to improve the lives of those living near their operations.
