The Western Cape government is testing the use of cow dung to generate electricity.
Agriculture MEC Gerrit van Rensburg has announced that they are still investigating technology on farms to see if this will work.
Spokesperson Wouter Kriel says the department is in the process of constructing a plant at a farm near George where the cow dung from a dairy farm will be used.
Kriel added that it is not a new technology but it seems successful in a small scale.
