The country’s largest local government union, the South African Municipal Workers Union, has announced a decision to embark on indefinite nationwide industrial action that could cripple service delivery as it has done in the past.
At a news conference in Johannesburg Samwu general secretary Nthandiki Nhlapo said the situation could further deteriorate as workers in the water sector could also join the strike.
This would happen if no new proposal is tabled, and accepted, before the 15th of this month.
