The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry remains concerned about the proposed toll fees for Gauteng’s e-tolling project.
Sacci has welcomed the extension of the Gautrain route to Pretoria, saying it seems to have already significantly alleviated congestion on the main Pretoria/Johannesburg highways.
But chief executive Neren Rau says if the proposed e-toll fees are introduced, the road freight industry will arguably have to foot the bulk of the bill.
The industry does not have a choice, while commuters now have a world class alternative.
In another development, Gautrain bus drivers downed tolls today in a wage dispute with management.
The Bombela Concession Company says the strike is illegal.
The company asked passengers to make alternative arrangements to avoid possible inconvenience.
Bombela says train services remain unaffected.
