Former Ekurhuleni Metro police Chief Robert McBride has been sentenced to two years in prison.
The case against McBride goes back to a car accident he was involved in back in December, 2006.
He was found guilty in April this year.
The State are looking to have McBride sentenced to direct imprisonment for defeating the ends of justice while the defence is calling for correctional supervision.
Magistrate Peet Johnson sentenced him to two years for driving under the influence of alcohol, and five years for defeating the ends of justice, of which two years were suspended for five years.
