The Eastern Cape health department has fired 720 staff members over the last 18-months in a bid to clean up corruption.
The head of department Siva Pillay explained to members of Parliament in public hearings what support he needed to tackle corruption in the provincial health department.
Pillay says the dismissals include the head of ambulances, several mortuary managers, and the head of infrastructure.
But he says getting rid of incompetent civil servants is an exhaustive process.
