Cabinet says it will protect people’s right to protest peacefully. But violent protests will not be tolerated and law enforcement agencies will maintain law and order.
Government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi says Cabinet specifically discussed the violent protests during the ANC Youth League disciplinary hearings in Johannesburg.
Ministers condemned behaviour that resulted in destruction of property and intimidation of people.
