Parliament is currently holding public hearings around the country on the cost of communication.

Right2Know National Coordinator Mark Weinberg said the profiteering of cellphone companies represents a major barrier to advance the right to communicate that the high level of cellphone access in South Africa offer.

Weinberg explains that the campaign is really saying that the cellphone companies are ripping off the public.

“We are paying much more than most other people in the world for our airtime and data and they campaign is saying there has to be a dramatic reduction in the cost of communication,” Weinberg.

He also explains that it is so that everyone can enjoy the right to communicate.
