The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union today said it expects more protests over the possible retrenchments at Anglo Platinum.

Amcu President Joseph Mathunjwa said they are planning a mass meeting with amcu members to discuss a way to counter the mining company's decision.

Mathunjwa said a mandate for the way forward will come out of that mass meeting to be held this weekend.

The North West Premier Thandi Modise expected is expected to lead a delegation from the provincial government, to engage Anglo American Platinum Management.

They will engage on the outcome of Amplats business review that proposes to close four shafts and sell it union mine.

These closures will result in the loss of 14 000 jobs in the mining sector.
