Metro police alerted to cash in transit heist

The Western Cape Metro Police today was alerted to an attempted cash in transit heist near the R300 off-ramp N2.

The Airport security personnel picked up cash from the airport and on the way, they were by a white Mercedes-Benz that crashed onto the cash van then a shootout ensued.

Police Spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said the security personnel returned fire and the attackers fled the scene on foot leaving the vehicle behind.

Van Wyk said no one was injured during this incident, no money was taken from the cash van and the vehicle used was not reported as stolen however an attempted cash is transit case was opened for investigation and the investigation continues.

Van Wyk said that anyone with information on this incident is requested to contact crime stop on 08600 10111.
