Democratic Alliance said
the safety of initiates must be top priority.
The DA has called on Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional
Affairs Richard Baloyi to set up an
Independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate what really went wrong during
the initiation process.
DA research and communications
officer Michael Mpofu said the deaths were due to reckless health and safety
practices, and that some individuals in communities have taken advantage of traditional
systems by taking up initiation schools without proper training and skills.
“Our message must be clear; the
safety of our children must take precedence over all else during these
ceremonies” Mpofu added.
