Cosatu in the NW concerned about corruption in the Madibeng Municipality

Lusanda Bill
22 January 2014

The Congress of South African Trade Union in the North West said it welcomes the decision of the African National Congress to remove the mayor and the speaker of the Madibeng Municipality.

Cosatu however has expressed concern over the new interim mayor and speaker who have been appointed and who come from the same team that failed the municipality including being in the forefront to disrupt the implementation of ministerial task team report.

Cosatu Provincial Secretary Solly Phetoe said our view is that the municipality must give guidance in terms of the instruction that comes from Luthuli House that they must implement the ministerial task team no later then seven days.

Phetoe said the ministerial task team is very clear on who must go and what must happen.  One of the recommendations is that government must deploy two officials from national government, local and two officials from the province and one of these officials must be appointed as the mayor.
