President Jacob Zuma has approved for the Special Investigating Unit to conduct an investigation into the Department of Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
Presidency Spokesperson Mac Maharaj
said allegations of maladministration, improper or unlawful conduct by
officials in the department, unlawful appropriation of public funds and
intentional or negligent use of public money will be investigated by the SIU.
Maharaj said the allegations relate
to the appointment of a service provider to provide technical support and
administrative services in respect of the Ward Based Co-operatives Programme of
COGTA.
“There are also allegations of payments
that were made by the department that it has been alleged were not fair”
Maharaj added.
