The National Executive Committee of Coastal Links South Africa has called for the amendments to the Marine Living Resources Act be approved quickly.

Last week the committee met in Langebaan to consider key issues affecting the fishing sector.

They also reflected on the developments around the commercial line fish permit allocations.

Communication Officer for Masifundise Development Trust Monsour Jaffer said it is vital that Marine Living Resources Act be amended as soon possible going through the NCOP.

“We believe that the MLRA has the potential to improve the lives of small fisheries substantial around the country, that is of course if it is properly implemented and for that we rely a lot on the department of Fisheries to drive that process and collaboration with all other stakeholders.” Jaffer said.
