Three women who phoned Jacob Zuma on the night his rape accuser says he attacked her, have testified in his trial. All three women told the Johannesburg High Court that they had phoned Zuma after ten o’clock that night but that they had not told the accused that they needed to see him urgently. This appears to contradict the evidence of the complainant who testified earlier that Zuma had told her that he needed to see someone urgently when she saw him on that night.
This morning a priest accused in 1995 by the complainant of rape testified that the woman was ill and needed help before families were destroyed. Yesterday the court heard similar testimony from four witnesses who portrayed the complainant as a disturbed person who had made false rape claims against them. Zuma denies raping the 31-year-old HIV-positive activist, who was a family friend.
Proceedings have been adjourned until tomorrow.
