Traffic departments snub short cars
Traffic departments have warned that new legislation makes it impossible for learner drivers to get their licence in a car less than three meters long. The new minimum length for heavy vehicles is six meters. Centurion licence-office chief Wouter Marais told Beeld a candidate would fail on the spot if the vehicle is shorter that the required length. Marais says a specific list of vehicles which do not comply with the required length has not been prepared for them yet, but the perky little Smart car, for example, would not meet the standard.
