Following the death of an on-duty worker at a plant of pet foods, the Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) has expressed their concern over the matter. FAWU has requested that the Department of Labour close animal feed company, Epol, until a thorough investigation into the death has been conducted.
“The factory must be closed down, cornered off, and allow for the department of labour to mount a thorough investigation and get to the root cause of the accident,” said FAWU Secretary General Katishi Masemola.
Masemola says the union is especially concerned at the departments silence regarding the incident and says that the plant should send senior health and safety inspectors to evaluate the plant.
An Epol employee, who asked not to be named, says that the company is undergoing internal investigations, which are likely to come to an end by Thursday or Friday.
