Cape Town based Bus Company, Golden Arrow has confirmed that the Western Cape Provincial Department of Transport has made a payment, to the sum of R94.5 million, as ordered by the Cape High Court, into its bank account.
The Provincial Transport and Public Works MEC Kholeka Mqulwana has expressed her happiness that the payment, regarding the subsidies owed to Golden Arrow bus services, was made.
“We are glad that both the Provincial Government and National departments have managed to avert what would have been a major inconvenience for bus commuters in the province,” said Koketso Sechane, spokesperson for the Department of Transport.
The National and Provincial Departments of Treasury and Transport hope to come to an agreement to resolve the bus subsidy challenge over the medium to long-term.
