The southern areas of the Western Cape are boiling in temperatures set to go above 40 degrees in places.
The heat wave is pushing fire fighters in the Hottentots Holland mountain range near Somerset West and Paarl to the limit.
Extra teams of firemen joined the local contingent from the Free State yesterday as authorities battle blazes that have been burning out of hand for about a month in the area.
A new fire broke out in the mountain around Paarl late yesterday and fire fighters battled the flames all night long.
Fire chief Dereck Damos said that strong winds are hampering their efforts but that helicopters have managed to take off to drop water on the flames
