A sting operation by the Western Cape Organize Crime Unit led to the arrest of a 27 year old man in possession of heroin with an estimated street value of R200 000 in Maitland yesterday.
Police responded to a tip off by a courier company of a suspicious parcel at the Cape Town International airport.
“On arrival, police discovered that the suspicious parcel consisted of two night gowns with buttons. When they opened the padding on the buttons, they found a small packet of heroine inside it. One of the gowns consisted of 31 buttons and the other consisted of 28 buttons, filled with heroine in each button,” said SAPS spokesperson Inspector Siyabulela Vukubi.
Police planned a “clandestine” operation, where they would deliver the parcel to the recipient in Maitland and make their arrest.
During their operation the suspect was apprehended. He will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court soon.
He faces charges of dealing in drugs.
