SARS next in line as strike looms

The South African Revenue Service has confirmed that they have been served strike notice from the Public Servants Association (PSA) and the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) last week Thursday.

SARS and the two unions have been engaging in informal consultations, after the parties deadlocked at the CCMA.

SARS has since revised its wage settlement offer, which has been rejected by organised labour.

Spokesperson Andre Lackay says SARS acknowledges the right of workers to strike and picket, however disruption of services will not be tolerated.

“The strike notice served on SARS commits labour to go on strike on Monday. Between now and then, we will continue with informal discussions with organised labour through their trade unions, and remain confident that consultations will lead to an amicable settlement,” said SARS spokesperson Andre Lackay.
