Last night police were alerted of a murder scene in Leiden in Delft after a failed armed robbery left a shopkeeper dead.

It is alleged four males, of which two were armed, demanded four Somalian shopkeepers to open the safety gate to their shop. The suspects fired a shot into the ground, fatally wounding one of the shopkeepers.

The suspects then fled the scene on foot empty handed.

The victim was later identified as 21 year old Jamaal Mohammed, a resident from Bellville.

No one else was injured during the incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact the Delft detective, Constable Pieter Bonthuys at (021) 954 9000 or on 084 589 5386.
