Swift action by an Officer of the Claremont Cluster, led to the arrest of a forty two year old man sought in connection with a house robbery yesterday in Rondebosch.

A sixty seven year old woman was working in her study when she heard unfamiliar noises outside her property. While investigating the sounds, she noticed an unknown male gain entrance into her house through an open bedroom window.

“She immediately locked herself inside the study. Upon seeing the complainant behind the glass study doors , the suspect produced a knife and began threatening the complainant and demanding that she opens the door.

“The suspect then began ransacking the house, removing computer and stereo equipment. Each time the suspect removed an item from the house, he returned to the study to further threatened the complainant. This process carried on quite a few times,” said SAPS spokesperson Captain Angie Latchman.

Whilst the suspect was ransacking the house, the woman managed to free herself from the study and ran to her neighbour requesting assistance. During this time the suspect fled the house with the stolen items.

On arrival, police were given a description of the man, which launched a search through the area.
The man was later arrested in Rondebosch East.

Further investigations have established that the suspect is wanted on house breaking and theft cases in the Mitchells Plain and Claremont area.

The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court tomorrow.
