The City of Cape Town’s Housing Directorate and Environmental Resource Management Department, in conjunction with Green Communities are set to launch an urban food garden and peace garden in Kewtown, Athlone today.

“The peace garden honours those in the Athlone area who have lost their lives as a result of drugs and gangsterism”.

“Parents of children who have died have been asked to bring photographs of their loved ones to the ceremony so that it can be a reminder to the youth and the community in Kewtown to stay off drugs and not get involved in gang wars” said City spokesperson Lauren Daniels.

At 15:00 a presentation ceremony will take place to round off the day’s event.

A memento of the event will be handed over to the teams involved, added Daniels.
