Western Cape Police gained an advantage with an early victory in the fight against gangsterism on the Cape flats after a huge firearm cache was recovered in the Phillipi area yesterday.
Police say the success came after an array of gang shooting incidents during the past week.
The crippling blow came when police officers attached to the National Intervention Unit and SAPS Phillipi received information and executed a search warrant in Athon Walk, Hanover Park.
Police spokesperson Inspector Keith Chandler says while officers were still busy on the scene they were informed of another stash of firearms further down the street which led to the recovery of the following items: three illegal firearms and one legal.
Police also found 7 Cell phones, 23 tik packets and 1 unknown drug.
Seven people were arrested for various charges and will appear in court soon.
