On Saturday a security guard drowned after falling into a storm water drain while chasing a man in Emmarentia, Johannesburg emergency services said.
“The 35 year old guard ran after a suspect along Barry Hertzog avenue on Saturday morning when he fell into a storm water drain, just before Judith road, and drowned,” said Spokesperson Synock Matobako.
The guard alongside another guard was patrolling the area when they spotted two men running away and ran after them.
One of the guards managed to capture a man while the other guard continued after the other man.
The other guard alerted emergency services when he did not return, and police divers retrieved the guard's body from the drain. The second man is still on the run.
No charges were laid. And it is still not known why the men were running away.
