Three people were injured and two critically injured in an accident on the N7 earlier today.

“The accident happened on the N7 about 20 kilometres outside Cape Town,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Lauren Copley.

Copley said it is alleged that the driver of a car with three occupants tried to overtake a bakkie when the accident happened.

According to rescue personnel on scene, the impact resulted in front wheels of the car being pushed underneath the back of the bakkie.

Paramedics along with Metro rescue battled to free the occupants of the mangled car.

“A critically injured man was airlifted to hospital. And a second man in his early thirties who sustained serious internal trauma and suspected head injury was transported by Netcare 911 ambulance to Groote Schuur hospital,” she said.

Another man was also treated and transported to hospital.
It is not known whether anyone in the bakkie was injured.

It is still unknown how the accident occured.
