On Wednesday a man jumped from the fifth floor window at Senator Park building to escape police in Cape Town.
Paramedics say the man landed on a balcony on the first floor. He injured his wrist, ankle and face.
“Police had been following up on information about drug dealing in specific rooms in the Senator Park building,” Captain Ezra October said.
It was during a wrestle with the police where he broke free.
October said the 19-year-old male was found in possession of two units of crack cocaine with a street value of R3 000.
"He ran through the house, jumped through a kitchen window and landed on a balcony on the first floor," he said.
He was taken to Groote Schuur hospital, where he’s being safeguarded by police.
Police were attacked by a large number of male tenants outside the building who threw stones and bricks at police cars..
They had to call for back. No one was injured.
One arrest was for malicious damage to state property, but he was later released.
