Questions are being asked after a billionaire businessman reportedly clinched a half-a-billion-Rands property deal with Police Commissioner Bheki Cele.
It is believed that Cele signed a deal to move the police’s top brass to Roux Shabangu's building in Pretoria almost two months before he bought it.
It is alleged that the deal never went out to tender, violating Treasury regulations.
Shabangu has confirmed that he bought the 18-storey Middestad Sanlam centre on Wednesday.
National Police Commissioner Cele apparently claims he does not even recall signing the agreement. When questioned about the matter he is reported to have said ‘Every day I sign piles and piles of documents and the lease is one of them. If there were any irregularities maybe supply chain management can answer that.’
