More than a million public servants affiliated to Cosatu and the Independent Labour Caucus are set to march today.
The unions last week rejected government's revised wage offer of a seven-percent increase and a 630-Rands housing allowance.
Unions are aiming for an eight-point-six percent increase and a thousand Rand housing allowance.
Meanwhile, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has advised parents to consider leaving their children at home because of the march action adding that it would be for safer for them in their homes.
The mass action will affect hospitals, schools and other government departments.
Marches will take place in Cape Town and Pretoria.
