The 38 Eastern Cape protestors arrested outside the Bizana municipality building yesterday will appear in the town’s magistrate’s court today.
The demonstrators, who are unhappy about ANC election candidate lists, pelted the municipality’s windows with stones.
A court order prevented them from coming within 100-metres of the building. But they then threw a petrol bomb, which did not ignite.
Police used water cannon to disperse the crowd. Earlier this week, protests forced the postponement of the swearing in of councillors.
Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma will next week kick-start his programme of monitoring site visits.
He will inspect a number of schools in the Amathole District and Buffalo Metro.
Zuma wants to assess the general state of education in the province.
He also plans to monitor the implementation of plans to address the challenges.
